The Kiel Institute for the World Economy (IfW Kiel) sees itself as Germany’s research institute on issues of globalization. Our researchers examine the driving forces and consequences of international economic activity, the integration and disintegration of global markets, as well as the possibilities and limitations of political action in open economies. The institute analyzes the global economy not merely as a sum of national economies, but as an interconnected economic space that must be understood and shaped. Our mission is to identify global economic challenges at an early stage and to develop actionable solutions that are compatible with open markets and competition, while keeping the living standards of all people in focus.
