UAE Coast Guard Rescues 22 From Burning Cargo Ship

The United Arab Emirates' National Guard said its Coast Guard unit rescued 22 crew members of Arab nationality after a fire broke out aboard a cargo ship in the Gulf of Oman. The operation began after the vessel's crew alerted the Coast Guard unit to the fire, prompting specialized teams to activate emergency response procedures and locate the ship. According to the National Guard, rescuers reached the vessel, evacuated all 22 crew members, and provided first aid before handing them over to the relevant authorities. All those rescued were reported to be in stable condition. The National Guard said the operation demonstrated its personnel's readiness and operational capability to respond swiftly to maritime emergencies, as well as its broader commitment to protecting lives and enhancing maritime safety and security in the region. UAE authorities noted that the incident followed a similar rescue on 10 October 2026, when the Coast Guard Division saved 22 Asian nationals after a fire broke out aboard an oil tanker in the Arabian Gulf. Coverage of the latest rescue, including reporting from the Times of Oman, emphasized the National Guard's consistent field competence and rapid-response procedures in handling fire-related emergencies on commercial vessels transiting the Gulf of Oman and Arabian Gulf, waters that see heavy shipping traffic and periodic safety incidents.
