BBC Georgia Detained in Tianjin Over Safety Deficiencies

The general cargo vessel BBC GEORGIA was detained at the port of Tianjin following a Port State Control inspection conducted under the Tokyo MOU on 06 Nov 2026. Inspectors recorded a total of 11 deficiencies, three of which were deemed detainable, prompting authorities to hold the ship pending corrective action. The BBC GEORGIA (IMO 9357224) is a general cargo/multipurpose vessel flying the flag of Antigua and Barbuda, with a gross tonnage of 9,625 and a deadweight of 12,797 tonnes. The vessel is managed under the ISM Code by Delft Schiffahrt GmbH And Co KG. Port State Control inspections under regional MOU frameworks such as Tokyo MOU are designed to verify compliance with international maritime safety, pollution prevention and crew welfare conventions. Vessels found with deficiencies serious enough to compromise seaworthiness or crew safety are detained until the issues are rectified and re-inspected by port authorities. No further details regarding the specific nature of the deficiencies or an expected release date for the BBC GEORGIA have been disclosed. The vessel will remain in Tianjin until the detainable deficiencies are addressed to the satisfaction of inspecting authorities.
