General Cargo Ship ANNUNAKI Detained in Kocaeli

The general cargo/multipurpose vessel ANNUNAKI (IMO 9210713) was detained following a Port State Control inspection conducted on 29 Oct 2026 at the port of Kocaeli, Turkey, under the Mediterranean Memorandum of Understanding (Med MoU). Inspectors recorded a total of 21 deficiencies during the check, of which six were classified as detainable, prompting authorities to hold the vessel in port. The Sierra Leone-flagged ship has a gross tonnage of 7,091 and is managed under the International Safety Management (ISM) Code by SET SHIP MANAGEMENT LTD. The detention adds the ANNUNAKI to the Med MoU's record of substandard vessels identified through port state control inspections, a process aimed at ensuring compliance with international maritime safety, pollution prevention and crew welfare conventions. Vessels subject to detention are typically required to rectify all outstanding deficiencies and undergo a follow-up inspection before being cleared to resume operations. No further details have been released regarding the specific nature of the deficiencies identified or a timeline for the vessel's release. Port State Control authorities under the Med MoU continue to monitor ships calling at member ports to enforce adherence to maritime safety standards.“
