Sulfur-Laden Ship Runs Aground off Andhra Pradesh Coast

A vessel carrying a cargo of sulfur ran aground off the eastern coast of India near Antarvedi, in the state of Andhra Pradesh, amid adverse weather conditions, according to maritime monitoring reports. The identity of the vessel has not been disclosed, and no further details have been released regarding the circumstances of the grounding, the extent of any damage, or the condition of the crew on board. It remains unclear whether the incident resulted in any pollution or cargo loss, as authorities have not issued an official statement. Antarvedi is a coastal town located in the Godavari delta region of Andhra Pradesh, an area periodically affected by strong winds and rough seas, particularly during seasonal weather shifts. Groundings in this stretch of the Bay of Bengal have occurred in the past due to sudden changes in sea conditions, which can compromise vessel stability and navigation, especially for ships carrying bulk cargoes such as sulfur. No information has been provided on salvage operations or efforts to refloat the vessel. Further details are expected to emerge as local maritime authorities assess the situation and confirm the vessel's identity and status.
