General Cargo Ship VEERSEBORG Detained in Kocaeli

The general cargo/multipurpose vessel VEERSEBORG (IMO 9184653) has been detained following a Port State Control inspection in Kocaeli under the Mediterranean Memorandum of Understanding (Med MoU). The inspection, carried out on 18 Oct 2026, identified 27 deficiencies in total, six of which were assessed as serious enough to warrant detention. The 6,130 gross tonnage ship sails under the flag of KN (Nevis) and is managed under the ISM Code by Sarfo Denizcilik ve Ticaret AS. Authorities have not released the specific nature of the deficiencies, but the scale of findings — nearly a third classified as detainable — points to significant concerns regarding the vessel's technical or operational condition at the time of inspection. Port State Control inspections are conducted to verify that foreign-flagged ships calling at member ports comply with international safety, security, and environmental standards. A detention order means the vessel is barred from leaving port until the identified deficiencies are rectified and the ship is re-inspected and cleared by the relevant maritime authority. The VEERSEBORG will remain in Kocaeli until Med MoU inspectors confirm that corrective actions have addressed the detainable deficiencies, after which the vessel may be released to resume operations.
