Mammoet Canada Eastern Ltd., Port of Argentia Inc. and Argentia Capital Inc. (ACI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to develop a floating dry dock and marine repair facility at Port of Argentia in Newfoundland and Labrador. The project would introduce new marine industrial capacity to the region, building on Mammoet's existing operations at the port.
The proposed facility centers on Tugdock's Submersible Platform (TSP), a modular floating dry dock system from Mammoet subsidiary Tugdock Submersible Platforms Ltd. designed to accommodate a range of vessels and industrial applications as a scalable alternative to conventional dry-docking infrastructure. The facility would utilize Port of Argentia's graving dock infrastructure, deep-water, ice-free harbor, large industrial land base and separation from residential areas, enabling year-round, around-the-clock operations, along with access to a skilled regional workforce experienced in marine, industrial and heavy construction sectors.
Mammoet has previously worked at the port's Cenovus Graving Dock site and supported Argentia's offshore wind marshalling projects. Executives from all three partners said the initiative positions Argentia as a strategic national industrial and marine hub, potentially serving commercial vessel operators, the Canadian Coast Guard, the Royal Canadian Navy, offshore oil and gas operators and the offshore wind sector.
Under the MOU, the partners will advance plans for a scalable, multi-client facility intended to strengthen the province's marine supply chain and create opportunities for local businesses and skilled trades. In the coming months, the group intends to launch a formal Expression of Interest process to identify a globally recognized marine industrial operator to run the proposed facility.
