Ship Khoryv Sinks Off Constanta After Drone Strike

The vessel Khoryv sank off the Romanian port of Constanta following a strike by an unmanned aerial vehicle, according to initial reports, resulting in the death of at least one crew member. Search and rescue operations remain underway for the rest of the crew. Local media reported that the ship's crew comprised sailors of Ukrainian and Azerbaijani nationality. Details on the total number of crew members aboard, as well as the exact circumstances leading to the strike, have not yet been confirmed. Constanta, located on Romania's Black Sea coast, has become an increasingly important hub for regional shipping traffic amid the ongoing war in Ukraine, with Black Sea maritime routes near the Romanian and Ukrainian coastlines repeatedly affected by military activity. Incidents involving drones and other munitions in the wider Black Sea area have raised concerns among shipping companies and insurers operating in the region. Authorities have not yet released an official statement confirming the cause of the incident or the condition of the surviving crew. Further updates are expected as rescue operations continue and investigations into the attack proceed.ic
