Bulk Carrier BELUGA A Detained in Kocaeli After Inspection

The bulk carrier BELUGA A (IMO 9256353) has been detained following a Port State Control inspection at the port of Kocaeli, Turkey, under the Mediterranean Memorandum of Understanding (Med MoU) framework. The inspection, conducted on 09 Oct 2026, identified a total of 17 deficiencies, of which 6 were classified as detainable. The vessel, flagged in Saint Kitts and Nevis (KN), has a gross tonnage of 16,978. It is managed under the International Safety Management (ISM) Code by Beluga Ship Management Ltd, which holds responsibility for ensuring the ship's compliance with international safety and operational standards. Port State Control inspections are carried out to verify that foreign-flagged vessels calling at ports meet international conventions covering safety, pollution prevention, and crew welfare. A detention is issued when deficiencies are deemed serious enough to pose a risk to the ship, its crew, or the environment, requiring the vessel to remain in port until corrective action is taken and the issues are resolved to the satisfaction of inspectors. No further details regarding the specific nature of the deficiencies or the expected duration of the detention have been disclosed. The BELUGA A will remain under detention in Kocaeli pending rectification of the identified issues and subsequent re-inspection by Med MoU authorities.
