General Cargo Ship Aegina Star Detained in Iskenderun

The general cargo/multipurpose vessel AEGINA STAR (IMO 9128415) has been detained following a Port State Control inspection at Iskenderun, Turkey, on 12 Oct 2026. The inspection, carried out under the Mediterranean MOU regime, recorded 19 total deficiencies, six of which were assessed as detainable. The 7,617 gross tonnage ship sails under the flag of São Tomé and Príncipe (ST) and is managed under the ISM Code by AEGINA MARITIME SINGLE MEMBER PRIVATE COMPANY. Port State Control authorities ordered the detention after determining that the identified deficiencies posed sufficient risk to warrant holding the vessel in port until corrective action is taken. Detentions under the Mediterranean MOU framework are issued when inspectors find conditions that do not meet international safety, pollution prevention, or crew welfare standards, or when deficiencies are deemed serious enough to affect the vessel's seaworthiness or compliance status. The vessel will remain detained at Iskenderun until the outstanding deficiencies are rectified and verified by port authorities, after which clearance to resume operations may be granted. Further details regarding the specific nature of the deficiencies and the timeline for the vessel's release have not been disclosed in the inspection record.
