Fortis Towed to Giresun After Smoke Detected in Cargo Hold

The Turkish Coast Guard towed the Russian-flagged cargo ship Fortis to an anchorage off Giresun on 11 October after smoke was detected in its cargo hold. The vessel, carrying 3,300 tonnes of chickpeas, was reportedly attacked by a drone while sailing from Novorossiysk, Russia, to Mersin, Türkiye. All 10 crew members had reportedly been evacuated. Port personnel cooled the vessel to prevent a fire, with no pollution reported.
