Two Sailors Missing After Attack on Tanker Petro Dolphin Off Oman

Two crew members are reported missing after the tanker Petro Dolphin came under attack off the coast of Sohar, Oman, according to maritime monitoring sources. The remaining crew members were evacuated from the vessel following the incident. Details about the nature of the attack and the identity or motive of those responsible have not been disclosed. The incident occurred in waters near the Strait of Hormuz, a key maritime chokepoint through which a significant share of the world's seaborne oil trade passes. Sohar, located on Oman's northern coast, hosts a major port and industrial zone and lies along one of the busiest shipping corridors in the Gulf region. The area has in recent years seen a series of security incidents affecting commercial vessels, prompting heightened vigilance from shipping companies and naval forces operating in the Gulf of Oman. Authorities and maritime security agencies have not yet issued an official statement confirming the circumstances of the attack or the condition of the missing sailors. Further information regarding search and rescue efforts, the vessel's flag state, and its ownership is expected as the situation develops. The incident adds to ongoing concerns over the safety of commercial shipping transiting the Strait of Hormuz and adjacent waters.
