The collision occurred at around 03:15 local time. Search and rescue operations were launched shortly after authorities lost contact with the vessel. Life-saving equipment, including the free-fall lifeboat, was found at sea, but no crew members have been located.
Tugberk Imamoğlu was carrying 4,199 tonnes of coiled steel sheet from İskenderun to Karadeniz Ereğli, while Alsu was sailing without cargo.
