Operation IRINI Conducts Flag Verification Boarding of MV Sun

EU Operation IRINI conducted a flag-verification boarding of the vessel MV Sun on 30 August while carrying out surveillance activities in the Mediterranean high seas. The boarding was conducted in accordance with Article 110 of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). Operation IRINI said the action forms part of its efforts to support EU measures against Russia’s shadow fleet and strengthen maritime security in the Mediterranean.
