All 12 Crew Rescued After Progress IV Sinks in Black Sea

All 12 crew members aboard the Dominica-flagged cargo vessel Progress IV were rescued after the vessel caught fire and sank in Romania’s Black Sea EEZ on August 27. Following a COSPAS-SARSAT alert at 17:55 local time, Romanian rescue units and the nearby Mohamad B responded to the scene, about 15 nautical miles from Sfântu Gheorghe. Two crew members were recovered by Mohamad B, while the remaining 10 were rescued by the Romanian Border Police. All seafarers had been brought to safety. One crew member suffered a fractured arm. The rescue operation was conducted in challenging conditions, with waves reaching approximately 2.5 metres.
