The World's Largest Drydocks — and the Shipyards That Own Them

TrustedDocks tracks 1,094 graving, dry and floating docks between 100 and 1,000 metres across the world's repair and construction yards — including 251 graving/dry docks of 300 metres or more. This is the top of that list.

The 300-metre club

A dock longer than 300 metres can take any vessel afloat — ULCVs, VLCCs, the largest cruise ships. Only 251 graving and dry docks worldwide clear that bar, and they are concentrated in a handful of countries: China, South Korea, Japan and a few strategic outliers in Europe, India and Southeast Asia. For owners, that list is the market for big-ship drydocking; for yards, membership is a moat.

What stands out

The biggest dock in the world is in Kaohsiung. CSBC's 950 × 92 m graving dock — built in the supertanker era for 1-million-DWT ambitions — remains unmatched half a century later.

Korea's giants were built for series production. The 640–700 m docks at HD Hyundai Ulsan and Gunsan and Samsung Geoje exist to assemble multiple hulls simultaneously; they double as the largest repair-capable chambers in North Asia.

China dominates by depth of list, not just size. Beyond the 580 × 120 m chambers at Waigaoqiao and Jiangnan, China holds the largest share of the 300-metre club — one reason the Ship Repair Index shows Chinese yards running a third above their 2025 baseline while every other region softens.

Strategic outliers matter. Harland & Wolff's 556 × 93 m Belfast dock and Pipavav's 661 × 65 m chamber in India are their regions' only entries at this scale — scarce assets when a ULCV needs emergency docking outside East Asia.
