Hot Gas Exposure Injures Third Engineer Aboard IOL Sapphire in India

A third engineer sustained burn injuries after hot gases escaped from a valve aboard the St Kitts and Nevis-flagged bulk carrier IOL Sapphire at an Kollam port on 12 August. The incident occurred during maintenance work after faults developed in two generators while sailing from Kakinada to Guinea. The incident occurred in afternoon, with the seafarer suffering burns to his face and abdomen. Coastal Police patrol vessels responded, and he was subsequently taken to hospital.
