Vessel Nawata Bhum Hits Hooghly Riverbank Near Diamond Harbour

The Nawata Bhum, a 147.82-metre Singapore-flagged container ship, struck the riverbank near Diamond Harbour, West Bengal, on 12 August while sailing toward Kolkata. The vessel was navigating a sharp bend when it reportedly lost steering control amid strong currents, driving it into the embankment near Nurpur ferry ghat. The master sounded repeated horn warnings as the vessel approached the bank. No injuries were reported, and the hull was said to be undamaged, although the riverbank sustained damage. A Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port Authority pilot was aboard, while tugs were deployed to refloat the vessel at the next high tide.
