Minoan Pioneer Loses Power After Projectile Strike in Strait of Hormuz, One Crew Missing

The bulk carrier Minoan Pioneer suffered a complete blackout after an unidentified projectile struck its engine room approximately 20 nautical miles northeast of Khasab, Oman, on 3 August. A fire later broke out in the vessel’s accommodation block, leaving the third engineer missing. The vessel was sailing northbound from São Francisco do Sul, Brazil, to Fujairah, UAE, when the incident occurred. Its distress call was relayed by the nearby Panama-flagged tanker Suriname Prosperity.
