Rough Weather Sends 17 Containers Overboard West of Colombo

Recovery efforts are being coordinated after 17 empty containers fell overboard from the Maldives State Shipping-operated vessel MSS Graphene approximately 17 nautical miles west of Colombo, Sri Lanka on 1 August. The containers were lost after the vessel encountered strong winds and heavy swells, with a large wave causing it to roll heavily. No crew members were injured, and the remaining containers were secured. MSS and Sri Lankan authorities are finalising a recovery plan, while the Sri Lankan Navy continues to monitor the area.
