The attack occurred about eight nautical miles northeast of Limah, Oman. The vessel transmitted a distress call at 20:10 UTC before the crew evacuated into a lifeboat. No casualties or environmental damage have been reported.
The tanker was identified as the Kaifan, a 2014-built, 46,327-dwt oil and chemical tanker operated by Kuwait Oil Tanker Company (KOTC). Authorities are investigating the incident.
