Container Ship Runs Aground in Strait of Hormuz After Route Deviation

A foreign-flagged container ship ran aground in the Strait of Hormuz after reportedly deviating from a designated shipping lane, Iranian state broadcaster IRIB reported on 1 July . The vessel became stranded in shallow waters and was unable to continue its voyage. No injuries, pollution or damage were reported. Iranian authorities said the grounding followed the vessel's departure from the prescribed transit route. The incident came days after the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy reminded ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz to use Iran-designated routes and maintain communication on VHF Channel 16.
