Projectile Damages Evergreen Containership Off Oman

The Singapore-flagged containership Ever Lovely was struck by an unknown projectile while sailing about 7.5 nautical miles southeast of Dahit, Oman, near the eastern exit of the Strait of Hormuz on 25 June, damaging its bridge but causing no injuries to the 21 crew members on board. According to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), the projectile hit the vessel's starboard side, prompting an immediate warning to ships operating in the area. The attack came hours after Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) warned that vessels could only transit the northern channel of the Strait of Hormuz with Iranian permission. Following the incident, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) temporarily paused its vessel evacuation framework through the strait while reviewing security assurances, although it clarified that the containership was not transiting under the IMO-coordinated scheme.
