Passenger Ferry GNV Azzurra Disabled by Fire off Corsica

An engine room fire aboard the Ro-Ro passenger ferry GNV Azzurra on 19 June triggered a major emergency response off Corsica in the Mediterranean Sea. The vessel, carrying 763 passengers and 113 crew members, when the fire broke out approximately 18 nautical miles off Cape Senetosa. The crew extinguished the blaze after more than two hours, and no injuries were reported. However, the ferry lost manoeuvrability following the incident, prompting French authorities to deploy rescue vessels, tugboats, a helicopter, and a firefighting team. The vessel was subsequently taken under tow by the tug Alessandro Onorato and escorted back to Porto Torres on 20 June.
