Iolcos Orders Two Kamsarmax Bulk Carriers in China

Greek dry bulk owner Iolcos Hellenic Maritime Enterprises has placed an order for two 82,000 dwt kamsarmax bulk carriers with New Dayang Shipbuilding in China. The vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2029. This marks Iolcos' return to the newbuilding market since late 2021, when it ordered three kamsarmaxes from COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry Yangzhou, all of which have now been delivered and are in service. Founded in 1982, Iolcos currently operates a fleet of about 18 dry bulk vessels and has managed over 50 bulk carriers historically. The order was reportedly finalized earlier this year but only recently became public through shipbuilding and market databases. The move comes amid increased newbuilding activity among Greek shipping companies in the kamsarmax segment.
