Hull Damage Forces Skandi Amazonas Aground Near Rio de Janeiro

The supply vessel Skandi Amazonas ran aground off Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on May 15 after striking a rock near the Santana Archipelago and suffering hull damage and flooding. The vessel was intentionally beached about 200 meters from shore after the crew failed to contain water ingress. Twelve crew members were evacuated, while 17 remained onboard for recovery operations. No injuries or pollution were reported. Brazilian authorities deployed an oil boom around the vessel as a precaution while investigations continue.
