Disabled Tanker Safely Towed to Anchorage in Çanakkale Strait

On 29 April, the tanker Zephyr Prosper was successfully assisted and secured at the Şevketiye Anchorage Area after suffering an engine failure in the Çanakkale Strait off Kilitbahir, Turkey. Under the coordination of the Çanakkale Ship Traffic Services Center, the vessel was escorted by a harbor pilot while tugboats Kurtarma-18, Kurtarma-19 and Kurtarma-20 supported the operation. The tanker was subsequently towed safely to anchorage by the tug Kurtarma-10. Authorities temporarily suspended vessel traffic in both directions through the Çanakkale Strait during the operation for navigational safety. No injuries, pollution or damage were reported.
