Brazil and Germany Support IMO Net-Zero Framework

Brazil and Germany have expressed strong support for the IMO Net-Zero Framework as the primary tool to achieve a decarbonized shipping sector by around 2050. They urge other IMO members to endorse the effective implementation of the 2023 IMO Greenhouse Gas Strategy. The two countries emphasize the importance of collaborative climate action to enable a timely and just transition. They also highlight the need to assess and address potential impacts on developing countries, including Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and Least Developed Countries (LDCs). Ensuring international competitiveness and market opportunities remains a key consideration. This joint stance aims to advance global efforts to reduce maritime emissions in line with international climate goals.
