Clinker-Laden Cargo Vessel Sinks off Laayoune; Crew Rescued

The 88-meter-long general cargo vessel Dura Bulk sank off Laayoune on 28 February after reporting water ingress while approaching the port, according to Morocco’s Ministry of Transport.

The vessel was carrying a shipment of clinker, a primary component in cement manufacturing, at the time of the incident. Authorities swiftly activated search-and-rescue protocols, leading to the safe evacuation of all crew members are were in stable condition. No injuries were reported. An official inquiry has been initiated to determine the circumstances surrounding the sinking.
