Fire on Passenger Vessel World Legacy Extinguished; One Crew Reported Dead

A crew member died after a fire broke out aboard the Ro-Ro/passenger vessel World Legacy while approaching Singapore on 20 February. The blaze, which started around 4:00 a.m. on deck nine, was extinguished by firefighters from the Singapore Civil Defence Force. The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore confirmed the death of an Indonesian crew member. No passenger injuries were reported. The vessel, carrying 271 passengers, was moved to Singapore anchorage after 190 passengers were evacuated to HarbourFront Ferry Terminal. An investigation is underway.
