Cable Repair Ship Collides with Kiel Canal Lock, No Major Impact Reported

On 8th March, the French cable repair vessel CABLE VIGILANCE collided with the tail section near the south chamber of the Holtenau Lock in the Kiel Canal. The accident resulted from a coordination error on the vessel's bridge, where the control console for the rudder and propeller systems on the bridge wing had not been activated. This oversight has been attributed to human error by the captain.

On 10th March, officials from the Kiel Canal Waterways and Shipping Authority (WSA) assessed the damage, finding several wooden floating fenders splintered and submerged. The WSA confirmed the damage was minor and could be repaired quickly. Following an inquiry by the Water Police, CABLE VIGILANCE resumed its voyage at approximately 9:00 PM local time the same day.
