Pilatus Marine Resumes Transit After Successful Refloating Operation

An engine failure caused the bulk carrier Pilatus Marine to run aground at Nara Dönüşü during its transit of the Çanakkale Strait, Türkiye, on 29 July. Türkiye’s General Directorate of Coastal Safety deployed divers to inspect the vessel before launching a refloating operation involving the tugs Kurtarma 16 and Kurtarma 19 and the emergency response boat Kıyem 1. The vessel was successfully refloated and continued its passage through the strait under pilot escort. Following the operation, vessel traffic in the strait was reopened in the north-to-south direction.
