Southeast Shipyards Alabama, based in Mobile, Alabama, is an established expert in blue-water ship construction, repairs and conversions, including those from commercial fleets, cruise ships and vessels that serve the U.S. defense cargo and Gulf of Mexico markets. Our facility in Mobile, Alabama is adjacent to the 42 ft deep ship channel on Mobile Bay providing direct access to and from the Gulf of Mexico and major shipping lanes.
The Gulf Coast operation is an established expert in blue-water ship repair and conversions, including those for commercial fleets and vessels that serve the U.S. defense cargo market. We also have extensive experience in the repair and conversions of drilling rigs and semi-submersibles serving the offshore oil industry.

Austal USA started operations in 1999 with under 100 employees on a 14-acre facility that consisted of a 90 x 60 assembly bay fronted by a 380-foot wharf. The original support staff of six included three vice presidents and their assistants and the team worked in a double-wide trailer.The first major expansion was completed in November 2005, shortly after Austal began designing the Independence-variant Littoral Combat Ship for the U.S. Navy. This expansion included two additional assembly bays, two launch pads, and a combined wharf (bulkhead) length of 750 feet.more
