The Western Shipyard was established in 1969 and privatized by the Estonian Concern BLRT Grupp in 2001. In 2003, it was reorganized into the Western Shipyard Group and consists of 18 companies.
The group‘s main activity fields are – ship repair and conversion, ship building, stevedoring and storage services, metal construction production, metal processing, hot galvanization, technical supply, transport services, procurement, etc.
The company has some prime advantages when competing with global ship repair; it‘s geographical position and high quality of work.
Outside the company‘s strategic activity – ship building and repair, company production areas and facilities allow the production of bulky overall dimension and high complexity metal constructions, sandblasting, prime and cut steel sheets and profiles, render reloading services, transport cargo by local and international routes.
After the privatization, the company preserved it‘s activity profile and has became competitive within the European market, proving it‘s ability to render services by customer requirements. Both a markedly growth in income and the number of ships for repair and construction from European countries support the company‘s ability to work within new situations.
The Western Shipyard Group has a real advantage as it works in close co-operation with widely known marine companies such as Wartsila, Premator, Fiskerstrand and MacGregor.
The company‘s quality management system is sustained by the intermediate audit attested conformity to the reqirements of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 1800 standards.
The Western Shipyard Group constantly invests in the implementation of renovation and modernization in their up-to-date facilities. In 2010, the Company Group invested 6,799 Euro and in 2011 – 4, 812 Euro.
Investments in production have improved due to under way work quality and a decreased time of execution, thus leading to more ships repaired and the company successfully pursuing further ship construction activity . Due to investments and innovations, the Company Group has become more attractive to many ship owners.
While further investment has strengthened the company‘s position through ship repair, conversion and new building markets, it has also created better conditions for further development of the company and has helped the company realize it‘s main goal – to produce products to it‘s very best in order to satisfy the requirments of the customers.
