Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd was established in 1858, with a history of more than 150 years. In 1996, XSI moved from urban area to Haicang District where it is located now. The yard has 1 dock, 2 slipways, 3 wharfs, covering an area of over 500,000 square meters, and has a deep-water coast with the length of 1.5 kilometer. Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., formerly known as the Fujian Mawei Shipyard, was founded in 1866 and then known as the Fujian Shipbuilding Administration. It is one of China's earliest established shipbuilding enterprises. In 2016, Mawei Shipyard relocated to Culu Island in Lianjiang. The plant now covers an area of approximately 1,060 mu (approximately 1,060 mu).
