Waste Systems

Waste Systems The discharge of waste into the sea is regulated internationally by MARPOL Annex V. With certain exceptions (food waste, harmless cargo residues, cleaning agents and additives as well as animal carcasses), no rubbish may enter the sea from ships. These requirements have been in effect worldwide since 2013. The waste must be temporarily stored on the ship until it is handed over to the shore or until it is disposed of by the ship's own waste incineration plant. This requires an appropriate waste management on board.
