Germany's Leonhardt & Blumberg has advanced its plans for a new MR product tanker project, set to be executed at Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI), a subsidiary of the China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC). The Leonhardt & Blumberg company has confirmed the construction of four tankers, each with a deadweight tonnage (dwt) of 49,500. Delivery of the vessels is expected to commence in 2027.
The initial two ships will be equipped with scrubbers and designed to be methanol-ready, aligning with future environmental regulations. These vessels are estimated to cost $45 million each. By integrating scrubber technology and preparing for alternative fuel usage, Leonhardt & Blumberg demonstrates a clear commitment to sustainable and environmentally compliant maritime operations.
